Robert Calva
Robert Calva began playing guitar in Houston, Texas at the age of 12. It was not long before he discovered that he wanted to have a career in music. Robert began playing professionally at the age of 17 in Houston and the surrounding areas. After playing professionally for five years he decided to go to college and study music. Robert attended the University of North Texas and later attended Musicians Institute.
While a student at MI, Robert was given the Outstanding Student of the Year Award for 1991-92. Robert has been teaching music since 1986 and taught at MI from 1993-2003. He has played with Bo Diddley, Tim Bogert, Deacon Jones, Joe Houston, Floyd Radford, Chevy Chase and countless others. He has opened for Debbie Davies, John Mayall, and Robben Ford.
He has performed for Buddy Ebson and Chevy Chase and has partied with the Monkees! Robert has also written two guitar instructional books which are published by Hal Leonard. He currently teaches at the Suzuki Academy of Music Houston and performs in the Texas Gulf Coast area.
